ENG 260 syllabus policy on academic integrity |
||
|
Students in this course are expected to abide by the guidelines on academic integrity that are found in chapter 340 of the SUNY Cortland 2008-2010 College Handbook. As stated in these guidelines, any instance of plagiarism, cheating on examinations or other forms of academic dishonesty will be punished, most likely by the receipt of a failing grade for this course and possible dismissal from the College. In practical terms, how the above policy applies to this course is that because of how it's all set up, i.e., as a Web-delivered, mostly asynchronous "virtual" class, you are expected to work pretty much independently. Yet I realize that several of you might be in related majors and may otherwise know each other, so I expect some of you might discuss our readings when you meet up in person just as you might do outside of a "real" class and perhaps you could even help each other out in making postings to our regular online Discussions board. But that still does not give you to right to represent the complete work of other people as your own, especially in examinations. If you do so, I will regard this as academic dishonesty and take the appropriate disciplinary action as outlined in this section of the Handbook. |
